Athlone golfer Colm Moriarty needs a good finish in one or both of the final two tournaments on the European Challenge Tour if he is to get an automatic card on the main European tour in 2008. After last weekend’s tournament in Italy in which he finished joint 40th and picked up €826 he is now 32nd on the Challenge Tour money list and needs to finish in the top 20 to secure his playing privileges for 2008. This week’s tournament is a €140,000 event in Italy. After that the tour moves to Spain for its final event (which is a €250,000 purse) at the end of next week. Colm won two events earlier in the year but had missed three cuts in a row before last weekend’s event. Colm is sponsored by a number of local businesses in the South Roscommon/ Westmeath area, including Glasson Golf Club.
