Athlone has been named as the venue for the European Triathlon Championships in 2010. It’s a first for Ireland and the Athlone bid was put together by the organisers of the triAthlone. The timing of the announcement was excellent as organisers were putting the final touches to the 2007 Waterways Ireland triAthlone, which takes place this weekend, on July 14th. Over 1,300 competitors are expected to take part in Ireland’s biggest race and one of the largest races in Europe this year. The event is comprised of a 750 metre swim, a 20 km cycle and a 5 km run through the town of Athlone. For further information, visit www.triathlone.com
