At The Racket get the toes tapping

Enjoy some superb traditional Irish music, definitely the ‘reel thing’, when At the Racket and friends appear at Roscommon Arts Centre. At The Racket came together in 1997 and have produced two CDs to date, ‘At the Racket’ and ‘Mirth Making Heroes’. The band brings an interesting new sound to Irish music, playing seriously joyous music which will lift hearts and get the feet tapping. Their music offers a mix of music from a bygone era and one of the freshest "new" sounds in Irish music today. They stand alone for their style and uniqueness and are well known for their uplifting banjo/saxophone lead sound which gives that "devil-may-care’ attitude to all their tunes, be they jigs, reels, flings, waltzes or songs. They combine swirling saxophone and banjo with vamping piano and pulsating guitars, honeyed tones of fiddle and flute, along with a velvet voice! In essence, At the Racket is a band to fill lungs with pure oxygen and set souls ablaze making this band such a delight for live audiences! A native of Cavan Town, Martin Donohue is a gifted traditional musician in his own right but spends much of his time promoting and producing other people’s work, having a particular passion for all things Cavan-related – its music, its culture, its people. Martin is highly regarded in traditional circles for his dynamic personal style on the accordion with his choice of tasteful settings, improvisation and his unique individual interpretation of the music. He’s highly involved in promoting the music of his County.
