Roscommon Arts centre is delighted to welcome Pre-Productions and Passionfrut Theatre Company to the centre for the first time with their new production by young Irish playwright Oswald J Healy. Set in 2005, 1972 and 1986, ‘With Wandering Steps and Slow’ deals with the interconnecting lives of four people looking for love, acceptance and a way to escape their pasts in the American South. Adam – a gardener with a dark past – begins an affair with Lilith – who sees in him a chance to escape the boredom and malaise of her middle-class life. Their world comes crashing down around them when a brutal murder forces them into a life of exile to the dark jazz-filled world of Baton Rouge. Simultaneously, the play relates the story of Eveline – a strong, empowered liberal woman – and Jonathon – a bookwormish, old-fashioned and nervous accountant – and their own search for intimacy amid the tumultuous world of 1970’s Southern America. Can any of these characters come to terms with a love where their high expectations can never be met? ‘With Wandering Steps and Slow’, in its exploration of human interaction, and man and woman’s struggle to love and forgive, is Healy’s most powerful, daring and beautiful work to date. Written by Oswald J. Healy whose previous piece ‘Brazen Bulls’ toured Ireland in 2006 to much critical acclaim, the play stars East 15 graduate Evie Craddock, Gaiety graduate Stephen Herbert, ‘Pure Mule’s’ Dermot Ward, and the award-winning Eoin O’Connell. ‘With Wandering Steps and Slow’, comes to Roscommon Arts Centre after touring Dublin and Galway, on September 14th and 15th. Tickets are €15, €10 Concession. Booking: 090 66 25 824.
