Apply now for back to school allowance – Finneran

Parents should apply now for funding under the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance, according to Deputy Michael Finneran.             ‘Getting children kitted out for school is an expensive task,’ said Deputy Finneran. ‘The Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance is a targeted payment designed to help people depending on certain social welfare and Health Service Executive payments, or taking part in approved employment schemes or training courses. It is also available to people on low incomes that are getting Family Income Supplement.             ‘Last year the allowance was claimed on behalf of 161,451 children at a cost of €23.5 million. In Roscommon, Mayo and Galway almost 16,000 children benefited from it. But while it is clear that this allowance helps many families every year, there are obviously hundreds of families who are eligible for it who are not applying for it.’
