Anyone for tennis?

This is another very big weekend in sport and the first Grand Slam of the year in tennis – the Australian Open – gets underway.    In the men’s tournament Roger Federer will be the hot favourite to land his third Australian title in a row, however I think that David Nalbandian could push the champion all the way this year.    In the women’s tournament Justine Henin could replace Serena Williams as the champion.   Betting is as follows: Men’s – 4/6 Federer, 6/1 Djocovic, 7/1 Nadal, 10/1 Nalbandian, 16/1 Murray, 20/1 bar. Women’s – 11/8 Henin, 5/1 S Williams, 11/2 Sharapova, 9/1 V Williams, 12/1 bar.   After the excitement of the FA Cup last weekend, it’s back to the Premiership this weekend. Betting as follows: 2/11 Arsenal v 9/2 Birmingham, 9/2 Draw. 2/9 Man. United v  10/1 Newcastle Utd., 4/1 Draw. 7/2 Middlesbrough v 8/11 Liverpool, 9/4 Draw. The three favourites are 6/4 in a treble.   In horseracing one of the big races of the National hunt season – The Pierce Hurdle -will go ahead at Leopardstown on Sunday. Mick Halford’s Do the Trick is the justified favourite to land the spoils. Betting as follows: 9/2 Do The Trick, 13/2 Roman Villa, 8/1 Indian Race, 10/1 Deutchland, 12/1 bar. Charity bet of the week Last week’s bet on a Man. Utd./Spurs double failed, so overall we are €20 down after our first week – but it’s early days yet. This week’s bet: €10 on David Nalbandian at 10/1 to cause an upset in the Australian Open and €10 on Do the Trick at 9/2 to win the Pierce Hurdle at Leopardstown.
