Another ladies football triumph for Kilglass

Roscommon Ladies Football Minor A Final Kilglass Gaels           3-8 Clann na Gael           1-8 Kilglass Gaels capped a memorable year for their club in ladies football when the beat Clann na Gael by six points in this well-contested final played at Hyde Park last Saturday.   Kilglass were four points down with fifteen minutes to go but they turned in a great last ten minutes to sweep past the Clann girls.    Clann were the better team at the start of the game and after only eight minutes, Aisling O’Neill’s goal meant they led by 1-1 to 0-0.   Then two Kilglass points from Natalie McHugh and Ciara Fallon narrowed the gap by the 18th minute and three minutes later Tiana Kelly put Kilglass ahead with a well-taken goal.   Kilglass missed a penalty two minutes later but Tiana Kelly claimed a good point almost immediately but Clann had their tails up and points from Aisling O’Neill and Ruth Finlass (2) saw them lead by 1-5 to 1-2 at half-time.   The sides exchanged points in the third quarter and when Ciara Fallon scored a Clann point in the 40th minute, Clann were four ahead. However Kilglass fought back. Natalie McHugh kicked two points to reduce the margin and Kilglass went ahead when McHugh crashed home a great goal with nine minutes to go.   Ruth Finlass levelled the scores again and should have had a goal but McHugh converted a free for Kilglass and the victory was sealed for the Kilglass girls when the player of the match Natalie McHugh scored her side’s third and decisive goal in the final minute of play.
