The highlight of the past week was the hosting of the annual congress at The Athlone Springs Hotel last weekend. The various reports were discussed on Saturday morning. The outgoing President’s address took proceedings to lunch. Motions were discussed after lunch and most related to fixtures. The congress concluded at 6.45 pm. Mass for the delegates was then celebrated by Canon Liam Devine who gave a very good Homily during the mass. The banquet was then held at 9 pm. Local TD Michael Finneran was in attendance as was the chairperson of Roscommon County camogie, Geraldine Beattie-Greene. There were presentations to retiring treasurer Michael Fitzgerald and Development Officer Pat Quill. There were two nominations to take over as President, Joe Lagan from Derry and Pat Quill from Wexford, with Pat Quill winning by 45 votes to 40. Peter Rice was elected as the new treasurer. On the new committees elected Geraldine Carey from Roscommon was elected to the fixtures committee. Next year’s congress will be held in Armagh. The Roscommon senior team beat Sligo by 2-8 to 0-7 in a challenge game at Ballyleague at the weekend. The next national league game is against Louth on Sunday next, March 16th. Venue yet to be confirmed. A meeting of the Roscommon county ladies board will be held on Tuesday, 18th March at 8 pm at the Roscommon Co. Board offices in Roscommon town. All clubs are asked to attend.
