Residents in Mote Park are furious this week as the problem of illegal dumping in the scenic woodland continues and have called on action to be taken against the dumpers. Illegal dumping of household rubbish at Mote Park, a beautiful facility located about three miles from Roscommon town, is an on-going problem for local residents. This week, residents awoke after the weekend to find a pile of 12 black refuse sacks dumped on the roadside near a picnic area. Local resident Patricia Blighe said, ‘This is a conservation area, local residents have spent a lot of time developing walks through the woodlands and then people are dumping rubbish and letting down their windows and dumping burger packs and plastic bottles’. Residents in the vicinity are working with Roscommon County Council to combat the problem and Ms. Blighe noted that some councils ‘police’ such woodland areas or install CCTV cameras in a bid to catch the culprits. The household rubbish dumped at Mote Park this week was collected by Coillte workers and taken away by Roscommon County Council.
