Anger as Roscommon and Leitrim link to stay

The decision of the Boundary Commission to leave County Leitrim ‘split’ for electoral purposes has been widely condemned.    There had been a massive campaign to have Leitrim retained as a single political entity for the next and future general elections, but the Boundary Commission, which issued its report yesterday (Wednesday) has angered the many people who made submissions to that effect.    Parts of Leitrim, including Drumshanbo, will now be included in Sligo/North Leitrim constituency, but Roscommon will remain aligned to South Leitrim as a three-seat constituency, albeit with some areas of Leitrim now ‘transferred’ to the Sligo/North Leitrim constituency.      Deputy Frank Feighan, who is thought to have picked up  between 600 and 700 first preference votes in the area of Leitrim now being ‘transferred,’ told the Roscommon People that he was ‘surprised and disappointed’ at the news.    ‘I am disappointed
