Gorthaganny Cemetary vandalism
There is widespread local anger following the theft of items including lights and ornaments from up to 15 graves in Gorthaganny Cemetery on Saturday, December 29th.
The act of vandalism is believed to have taken place between 12 noon and 2 pm and family members have since spoken out against the horrific act.
Local woman, Joanne Jordan, whose father’s grave was affected, recently contacted the Roscommon People to voice her anger.
“Christmas lights and ornaments are missing from about 15 graves and some of the lights were later discovered thrown over a wall nearby. I had placed flowers on my father’s grave on Christmas Eve to mark his anniversary and we then went back down with the ornaments after Christmas.
“It’s horrific to think that someone could do something like this and there is tremendous anger among the families affected,” she said.
Castlerea Gardaí are investigating the incident and anyone with any information is asked to contact them on 094-9621630.
