There was more strong criticism of An Taisce at this week’s monthly meeting of Roscommon Co. Council during a debate on a material contravention of the Boyle Town Development Plan which came up before Councillors. The issue concerned the development of a warehouse in the town. Cllr. John Cummins told the meeting that there was another objection (from An Taisce) in to this development already. ‘These people come in to Boyle, look at the planning proposals and then automatically object. The biggest laugh about this objection is that there are two similar warehouses just 20 metres away from the one that is proposed and those warehouses received planning permission from this local authority without any problem whatsoever! ‘There are certain people out there and it seems to me that they will not be happy until all development in the Boyle area is stopped altogether – it’s a terrible situation and I don’t know what can be done.’ The material contravention was passed unanimously.
