All-Ireland Bridge win for Roscommon couple

A husband and wife team who are long-time members of Bridge Clubs in Roscommon, were on the team which won the coveted Coen Trophy at the Bridge National Mixed Teams Championship in Dublin last weekend.

Mary and Vincent Brennan from Roscommon town were on the team along with Nan Murtagh and John Godden from Longford.   The ‘Coen Trophy’ is awarded annually to the winners of the Bridge National Mixed Team event. The event was held last Sunday in the Templeogue Bridge Centre in Dublin.

Over forty teams from all over Ireland, which included most of the leading bridge players, including our international players, competed.

While Mary and Vincent have been playing Bridge for many years, this is their greatest achievement and a first All-Ireland win.

“We’re delighted to have won this All-Ireland,” Vincent told the
Roscommon People.

“I suppose it helps put Roscommon on the ‘Bridge map’ and should hopefully encourage more people to take up the game.”
