Minister of State Michael Finneran issued the following statement this week in response to the meeting between Professor Drumm of the HSE and Consultants: ‘The plan for the services at Roscommon County Hospital as outlined by Professor Drumm on his visit last Thursday to Merlin Park Hospital is unacceptable. ‘His plan would reduce the services at Roscommon County Hospital to such an extent that the Hospital could no longer function properly as an Acute General Hospital. ‘I have consulted locally over the weekend on a political basis and with community groups and generally people are alarmed over Professor Drumm’s comments. ‘The proposals in the Health Service Executive plan are a direct attack on the Roscommon County Hospital and its services and has the possible wider implication of creating political instability in this constituency. ‘Professor Drumm attempts to ignore the agreement reached in Minister Harney’s Office on the 12th September 2006 where the Health Service Executive was represented by Senior Management. ‘I have sought a meeting as a matter of urgency with Mary Harney T.D. Minister for Health and Children to discuss this alarming development.’
