AIT Quantity Surveying Degree receives stamp of approval

Athlone Institute of Technology’s Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Quantity Surveying has been awarded Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI) accreditation. Graduates of the QS programme now have a direct route to attaining the professional title of chartered quantity surveyor.

The SCSI is an affiliate of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), so as a chartered quantity surveyor, graduates will possess a globally recognised and respected professional qualification.

The SCSI regulates the highest standards in education and training, protects members and public through strict regulation of ethics and standards, provides advice to organisations such as government and publishes market information and research.

  “We know that our current students and recent graduates will be very happy with this news, as we are fully aware of their commitment to the programme and the career they have chosen,” said Alan Duffy (lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering at AIT), welcoming the news.

“For those who are still considering their options for third level programmes at this time, the BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying at AIT should be given serious consideration. QS is a particularly well remunerated career. Graduates can expect salaries of €35,000, progressing to €50,000 as junior surveyors within the first few years of work”.

AIT’s BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying covers the core areas of QS, Building Information Modelling (BIM) and the cost management of mechanical and electrical services technology. The programme also includes a nine-month industry work placement. Graduates of this degree are qualified to work with contractors, sub-contractors, local authorities, Government departments or as a consultant in a private practice.

Winner of The Sunday Times Institute of the Year in both 2020 and 2018, AIT is Ireland’s top-ranked institute of technology and is on track to open its doors as the country’s third technological university in autumn 2021
