Ahern ‘briefcase Garda’s’ Roscommon links

The Garda who is reported to have alleged that Taoiseach Bertie Ahern (while a minister) brought a substantial sum of cash to Manchester in a briefcase is of Roscommon origin.   Garda Martin Fallon is from just outside Ballyleague, Co. Roscommon. It is alleged that Garda Fallon, a long-time Garda driver of senior politicians, told top Fine Gael politicians that he had seen Mr. Ahern take the briefcase of cash through the VIP section of Dublin Airport in 1994.   Garda Fallon and his immediate family have declined to get involved in the political controversy that has arisen in recent weeks in relation to the claims. However his nephew, Finian Fallon, whose father, Garda Richard Fallon was murdered by bank robbers in 1970, has spoken out. Mr. Finian Fallon said at the weekend that he had no reason not to believe his uncle’s claims about Bertie Ahern.   Mr. Ahern had steadfastly rejected the allegations.
