Well-known local businessman Adrian Keegan is on the entrepreneurial trail again!
Husband to the lovely Kathleen, Adrian is dad to teenager and TY student Katelynn (16), who attends St. Mary’s College Ballygar, and sons Tiernan (10) and Daithí (8), both pupils at Ballygar’s National School.
Adrian’s talent as a skilful inventor once earned him a place on RTÉ TV’s Dragons’ Den.
Not one to sit on his laurels, Adrian recently showcased his latest invention at last month’s National Ploughing Championships.
“It’s called the Meal Riser. All farmers have a round meal bin on the back of their tractors. The farmer arrives, fills the bin and goes home. These bins are great because they’re vermin-proof and weather-proof but there’s a problem accessing the meal due to the four foot ten inch drop. It can be difficult for farmers who’re elderly or who may have hip or back problems or hernias, or even for female farmers, because leaning in could cause compression on breast tissue and this invention has solved so many problems” says Adrian.
The Meal Riser works like an accessory. The farmer places it into the existing bin and, according to Adrian, “no alterations are required.” There is an automatic spring-loaded floor in the device…when the farmer removes the meal, this works to push up the remainder of the feed. A simple but brilliant idea which Adrian tells us is going into production very soon. He has thanked everyone for their great support.
“I displayed the finished prototype at the Ploughing Championships but couldn’t sell it – but there was great interest in it.”
