Abbey Community College students hold competition to name Angus calves

In September, students from Abbey Community College, Boyle were the lucky winners of five Irish Angus Bull calves as part of the Certified Irish Angus Schools competition.

Recently, the winning Abbey Community College students hosted a colouring competition where five local national schools were invited to take part in naming each of the calves.

The competition received a high number of entries with plenty of name suggestions and winners were chosen from Grange National School, Croghan National School, Scoil na nAingeal Naofa, St. Joseph’s Boys National School and Kilmactranny National School.

Students and staff at Abbey Community College would like to sincerely thank generous sponsors for prizes, which they gratefully appreciated. Sponsors included Cooney’s Centra, Boyle who supplied selection boxes for winning entries, the Irish Angus Society in Carrick-on-Shannon, which supplied hats and pens, and Killoran’s Gala, Ballyforan, who sponsored goodies for each of the schools.

The Abbey students, Colin McGrath, David Duggan, Liam Killoran and Gavin O’Connor also wish to thank their teachers for allowing them to hold the competition and also a very big well done to all local national school children for their hard work!
