The Roscommon Tidy Towns volunteers would like to thank everyone who donated to their recent Church gate collection, and noted that it is much appreciated.
Judging for the national competition will commence on the 1st of June. Roscommon Tidy Towns volunteers, council staff, community service workers, and Tús workers are all working together to ensure the town looks its best for the judges.
A very detailed application form was submitted for the national competition, listing the Tidy Towns projects and a map to guide the judges around the town. The judges arrive unannounced in the town and will judge its appearance on the day of their visit.
Fortunately, there are many active Residents Associations in the town maintaining their areas, and they have received favourable comments from judges on previous visits. There are some properties in town with weeds growing from the gutters – these could be noted, as the judges mark property from the roof to the pavement.
Everyone can play their part by maintaining their own property and area. The judges name areas and property requiring attention in the report sheet and give praise where praise is due.
The containers in town and the approach road will be replanted next week. New volunteers are always welcome to assist with the various projects around the town. Volunteers meet on Tuesdays at 7 pm in the car park opposite the Garda Station.
Carrick-on-Shannon has seen a great boost in visitors since winning the national competition last year. Roscommon Town is at Gold Medal status and aims to increase its points again this year.
