A dream come true for Mervyn

Captain Mervyn Connaughton was another very happy man after the game.’Thank God we came good in the second half. We were sluggish in the first half and we couldn’t seem to get going, but we kept at it and it worked out in the end.’             ‘We got a right roasting at half time (from ex-player and manager Frank Carthy) and that worked a dream. We got going in the second half and Gary’s goal was crucial and it turned the game in our favour.’             ‘It has been a great year with the league win, the U21s too and now this, but we have to follow it up now. Hopefully this is only a stepping stone and that we can push on from here, but it’s an unbelievable honour to have captained Roscommon to win a national title at Croke Park – a dream come true,’ he concluded.
