Roscommon lose out to Galway in the Connacht SFC semi-final

A poor first half display cost Roscommon as Galway footballers progressed into the Connacht final after a tense and exciting semi-final played before a crowd of 16.917 at Dr Hyde Park this afternoon.

Galway were in control for most of the first half and Roscommon failed to score from play as the Tribesmen led by 0-7 to 0-3 at the break. But Roscommon were transformed after the break. They scored 1-3 without reply to edged ahead by the 41st minute. Ciaran Murtagh got the goal after a brilliant team move.

But Galway steadied the ship and Damien Comer pounced for an opportunist goal in the 54th minute after Dylan McHugh’s shot came back off a post and they never looked back after that.

Roscommon will rue two clear goal chances that came in the second half when Conor Daly fisted wide in the 39th minute and Conor Cox who was through but slipped in the 42nd minute. Now Galway play Sligo in the Connacht final while Roscommon will take their chance in the All Ireland series and await the draw next week.
