Senator Maura Hopkins says the launch of a new €1bn Rural Regeneration and Development Fund will have a positive impact on communities across Roscommon and Galway.
Senator Hopkins explained that the fund forms part of Project Ireland 2040 and is targeted at increasing employment opportunities in rural towns and villages as well as supporting infrastructure developments to improve the quality of life enjoyed by people right across this region.
“The fund will encourage much-needed cooperation between Departments, Government agencies, County Councils and local communities in order to provide for the greatest possible benefit for our towns and villages”.
Senator Hopkins continued: “Eligible projects must demonstrate a capacity to add value to other public investments. There will also be a requirement of match funding in the region of 25% from other public or private sources.
“All towns and villages with a population of less than 10,000 will be eligible for this fund. Roscommon Town and Ballinasloe as the larger urban centres in this region will also be eligible to apply for a €2 Billion Urban Regeneration and Development Fund”.
Senator Hopkins concluded: “These funds will provide much-needed investment in our communities. It is anticipated that the funds will open for applications in the coming weeks and more detailed criteria will be provided at that time”.
