€14.3m boost for roads

Deputy Denis Naughten and Senator Frank Feighan have both welcomed the allocation of €14.3m by Transport Infrastructure Ireland in the national road network throughout County Roscommon.

The investment includes €4m for the new section of road at the Hill of Oran, resurfacing of Athleague village and the town of Castlerea, and the upgrading of sections of the Boyle to Athlone road.

Deputy Naughten (right) said that funding of €3m has also been set aside to complete the planning and design for the new N5 road between Ballaghaderreen and Scramogue which will not only improve access to the West but also “allow for the future development of Strokestown, Tulsk, Bellanagare and Frenchpark”.

Deputy Naughten added: “This investment will improve safety along some of the most dangerous sections of road in our county as well as improving the streetscape of Castlerea and Athleague”.
