Fianna Fáil TD Eugene Murphy has urged Health Minister Simon Harris to speed up the proposed multi-million euro development at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Roscommon Town.
Deputy Murphy recently tabled a parliamentary question with the Minister for Health seeking an update on the status of the planned €10 million project for a replacement 50-bed unit at the Sacred Heart Hospital.
Deputy Murphy says that prior to the 2016 General Election it was indicated that this project would be completed in 2021.
However, the reply to Deputy Murphy now indicates that funding is only due to be provided to commence the design process in 2019 and it is expected that construction will get underway towards the end of 2020 with completion not scheduled now until 2022.
While welcoming the work that has been done, Deputy Murphy said the project is moving at a very slow pace. He pledged to keep this issue on the “radar of the Minister for Health”.
