Shane Carty is one of the more experienced players on the Pearses team. Like many of his colleagues he is really enjoying their crusade through the club championship.
“This is a great opportunity for the lads on the team and obviously we have never been here before and it’s fantastic for the fans and supporters and everyone in the club and the management. We are in bonus territory now and no matter what happens it’s been a great year. But we are going out to win this game. Corofin are one of the best teams in Ireland but we are just going to go for it.
“We have a good team but it has taken us so long to get to this stage but now that we have got over the line in Roscommon we are feeling confident and we feel we have a great chance of winning”.
Shane says that playing the semi-final in London was a super experience.
“The huge crowd (in London) was surreal to be honest. On the Saturday night we were looking at the videos and instagrams of the crowd and they had a great time but we were concentrating on our job. There was a great determination in the dressing-room but it was fantastic that so many people travelled for the match in London”.
The Pearses defender agrees that the pressure is off the players since winning the Roscommon County title.
“Since winning the county final everyone has been in great form. Training hasn’t been too hard because the games in Connacht came up thick and fast. One more game now and we will be going in full of confidence knowing that we capable of doing the job”.
Shane says that that they will show no fear of Corofin on Sunday.
“Being underdogs will suit us but we know what Corofin will bring to the table. They are unbeaten for a long while. We will have to be cautious on the day we have to go out and show that we are not afraid of them. We know that we will not be going in as the favourites to win but there have been many cases in the past where teams have gone in as underdogs and have come out on top and we can take inspiration from that”.
Shane is looking forward to the big day now. “I am really relishing this as a player. To play Corofin who have such a great record is fantastic. We have never got an opportunity like this before so we are just going to relish it and it would be unbelievable if we could go out and beat them. I am really looking forward to it,” he concluded.
